Governor Obaseki of Edo State has taken significant steps towards improving the quality of basic education through the implementation of the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme. With a focus on transforming learning outcomes for over 300,000 children across 1,029 public primary and 471 junior secondary schools in the state, EdoBEST is revolutionizing the education sector in Edo State.

Under the EdoBEST programme, all 15,000 government teachers are being retrained to become technologically supported and empowered educators. From novices to experienced teachers, everyone is receiving training and support to enhance their teaching capabilities. This government-led initiative aims to equip teachers with the necessary skills and tools to deliver high-quality education to the students of Edo State.

EdoBEST recognizes the importance of technology in today's rapidly evolving educational landscape. By integrating technology into teaching practices, the programme aims to enhance the learning experience for students. Teachers are equipped with tablets loaded with interactive educational content and learning materials. About the Role

As the Director of Communications for EdoBest, you will be responsible for leading the communications efforts for this government education program. Your main objective will be to develop and implement effective communication strategies that promote the program both within Nigeria and internationally. You will work closely with government officials and other stakeholders to ensure that the program's goals and achievements are effectively communicated.

What You Will Do As a Director of Communications 

  • Manage the communications for the statewide government education program

  • Develop compelling communications strategies to promote the program within Nigeria and internationally

  • Act as a spokesperson and represent the program in local and national forums

  • Build strong advocacy engagement programs with national and multinational partners

  • Write clear and compelling pitches, press releases, and articles

  • Support the government in developing content strategies for digital communications

  • Analyze and measure the results of communications initiatives

  • Work closely within the Nigerian communications group to advance the program's communication strategy

Eligible Qualifications 

To be eligible for the Director of Communications role at EdoBest, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A Master's Degree in a relevant field

  • At least 8 years of experience in communications

  • An established network of local and national media contacts

  • Experience in crisis communications

  • Experience in developing and delivering social media and digital campaigns

  • Experience working with or for government in a communications capacity

  • Experience in Nigeria in communications for political, campaigning, non-profit, or social enterprise organizations

  • Experience with a multinational organization is a plus

  • Strong writing and editorial skills

  • Strong sense of teamwork and ability to manage and execute programs

  • Proactive and determined attitude
